Lloyd’s practice explores the intersections of queer identity, history, and the natural world. He draws inspiration from the ways queerness is reflected in nature—such as animal species known to exhibit same-sex behaviors—and from the long tradition of coded signifiers in art, where queerness has been suggested rather than openly shown. These gestures, like Oscar Wilde’s green carnation flower, mirror how queer individuals, under social pressures, have presented only fragments of themselves: shadows instead of full selves.

Living both within and outside of the “closet” has shaped how he approaches his work. David is interested in how queerness has always been part of culture and history—sometimes illuminated, sometimes obscured, but always present. This duality of visibility and concealment continually informs his process, inspiring him to create work that celebrates resilience and belonging while also acknowledging the challenges endured within the Queer community.

Through photography, digital painting, and mixed media, He creates works that honor the complexity of LGBTQIA+ lives. Lloyd’s practice emphasizes both vulnerability and strength, merging personal experience, history, and the beauty of the natural environment.

Ultimately, his work seeks to amplify Queer voices and expand representation. He strives to create work that affirm presence—illuminating the diverse ways Queerness shapes and enriches our shared world.
