Hundreds of paper butterflies die-cut from a vintage sci-fi illustration book. Lloyd uses butterflies as the subject matter to create a work that lives somewhere between the figurative and abstract. The paper butterflies appear to be suspended, as if frozen mid-flight. The optical effect was created by alternating layers of die-cut butterflies and sheets of transparent plexiglass. This piece was inspired by the transformative symbolism of butterflies and outer space.
